Jeremy Vander kam
Lecturer
Jeremy joined the Cal Poly team in Winter 2026 as a part time lecturer. He has been at NASA for 25 years, leading several teams in atmospheric re-entry system and Thermal Protection System (TPS) development and operations. Most recently he led the team that developed a new TPS material system for the Mars Sample Return (MSR) Earth Entry System (EES) heatshield and led portions of the Orion Artemis 1 heat shield post-flight investigation.
Jeremy has a B.S in both Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering as well as a M.S. in Engineering from UC Davis.
In addition to playing guitar and water polo, Jeremy is excited to engage with the Cal Poly student community and provide whatever experience and insights that he can.
