Saturnian Perspectives

The artwork is a 3D wire sculpture of Saturn made primarily out of copper wire, with multiple individual pieces that were hung up by string to create the complete sculpture. When viewed from one direction, Saturn is under observation by a spacecraft, but as the sculpture is rotated the spacecraft becomes a city skyline. The idea for this artwork comes from the interaction between reality and science fiction in aerospace.

Growing up I was inspired by the romanticized notion of human space exploration, specifically coming from art in the 60/70’s that showed cities on different planets. As I started studying aerospace engineering, I have become even more inspired by the amazing real achievements that have been made in exploring other planets.
