Design, Build, Fly

About us

Cal Poly DBF is a club that competes annually in the SAE Aero Design West competition, in which university teams from around the world apply rigorous engineering methods to create an unmanned, electric-power, radio-control aircraft, with the goal to perform the best according to the mission profile set forth by SAE. Over the course of the year, we design, build, and fly prototype and competition aircraft. We also conduct simultaneous research and testing in areas of interest that we feel we can incorporate into future prototypes or future years and train new RC pilots. The majority of our design work is most relevant for Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering majors, but all backgrounds and experience are welcome.
