Dr. Jin Tso
In Memoriam: Professor Emeritus Jin Tso
Professor Emeritus Jin Tso, who joined the Cal Poly Aerospace Engineering Department in 1988, passed away on June 6. He earned his Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University.
A dedicated and enthusiastic teacher until his retirement in 2014, Tso taught in the area of thermodynamics. His particular area of interest was wind tunnel testing, working with students on drag and turbulence testing.
As department chair from 1997 to 2003, Tso led the effort to incorporate space systems into the program. As a result of his leadership, the department name changed from Aeronautical to Aerospace Engineering, signaling its advance into the future.
Tso cared deeply about the department and student success. He was esteemed by colleagues and students for his humor, positive energy, dignity and integrity.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; his children, John and Jenny; his siblings, Yen, Grace, and Allen; and his nieces and nephews, Alice, Justin Jr., Wesley, and Hanna.
He was one of my favorite professors. He always wanted everyone to do their best, always had a smile on his face that would make you smile back, and always had such a kind demeanor. You will truly be missed by everyone who has met you Dr. Tso. Rest in peace- Vikuyla Mikulchilk (past aero student)
