Dr. Kaveh Kabir is a lecturer in the Aerospace Engineering Department and the Materials Engineering Department. Prior to joining Cal Poly, he taught a wide range of engineering subjects at UNSW Australia, Macquarie University and the Australian Technical and Further Education Institute (TAFE). In 2015 he received Macquarie University’s Teaching Excellence Award for developing and delivering high-quality, hands-on subjects in the Department of Engineering.

Kaveh has degrees in Mechanical Engineering (BEng) and Materials Engineering (PhD). His main research interests are composite materials and bio-inspired structures. His research expertise includes experimental fluid dynamics, as well as the area of structural integrity of materials, particularly the design of materials for high reliability in complex environments through a combination of macro- to nano-scale experimental and numerical techniques. He currently collaborates with the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organization (ANSTO) and UNSW Australia on multiple bio-inspired/composite projects.

The highlight of his mentoring experience is guiding the award-winning UNSW Solar Racing Car team (SUNSWIFT) that currently holds an FIA international land speed record for the world’s fastest electric vehicle over 500km.
